SEKINCHAN, May 11 — A total of 10 houses here were damaged due to a strong storm this morning.

Sekinchan state assemblyman Ng Suee Lim said several houses’ roofs were blown away by the strong wind in the 5am incident while some were damaged by fallen trees.

“The incident also damaged the paddy crops which are about to be harvested. This resulted in the farmers incurring heavy losses.

“The state government will help the victims. Currently, they are making police reports,” he said after holding a peaceful rally with some 100 farmers here today.

Ng, who is also the Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker, advised residents to be prepared for problems caused by climate change that is currently plaguing the world.

At the same time, he said no large-scale Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house would be organised to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We will only hold a baraan (celebration) ceremony at the village chief’s house involving a small number of participants. We will meet the residents in stages,” he said.
