Two Selangor districts to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain until evening

SHAH ALAM, May 15 — Two districts in Selangor are expected to undergo thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains until 6pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 3.55pm on Facebook, it said the districts include Kuala Langat and Sepang including the whole of Kuala Lumpur as well as Melaka.

The agency also predicted similar bad weather in several districts within Kedah (Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang (Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan), Pahang (Bera), Negeri Sembilan (Tampin) and Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru).

It also issued warnings of similar weather in several areas within Sarawak: Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong, Sarikei, Sibu (Sibu), Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro and Matu), Miri (Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang and in Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan) and Pantai Barat.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
