BALING, July 22 — The Misi Selangor Penyayang (MSP) 2.0 relief mission involving a contribution of RM100,000 to the flood victims in Baling, Kedah is part of the Selangor government’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to the community.

State executive councillor for youth Mohd Khairuddin Othman said Selangor was ready to send assistance to any disaster area or help any affected community as long as it is within its means.

“When Baling was hit by flood, the Menteri Besar was among the first to respond and the state executive councillor for youth follow up on the action. It is similar to Kelantan (2014 flood), where Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari also showed his concern. Prior to this, in July last year, we provided assistance to (flood victims) Yan, Kedah.

“This is humanitarian aid. Selangor will continue to help any residents as long as we are able to,” he said when met at the relief mission’s handover ceremony here yesterday.

The donation was handed over by Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim to Baling’s Land and District Officer Mohd Shahadan Abdullah.

It involves RM30,000 cash aid to Baling Land and District office, as well as donations of cash to 400 heads of households and hygiene kits to help ease their burden after the floods.

MSP 2.0 saw 150 members of the Special Action Squad (Pantas) from Selangor’s 12 local authorities participate, alongside members of Selangor Volunteers and Team Selangor.

On July 6, MSP 1.0 saw 262 local authority members and volunteers head to Baling to aid in cleaning up dozens of flood victims’ homes, with some 90 tonnes of bulk rubbish removed from the area.

Continuous heavy rain for almost three hours in Baling on July 4 resulted in Sungai Kupang’s water level overflowing into the homes of nearby residents.

Three members of a family, including a pregnant woman, perished after being swept away by the currents.
