State reps hope RS-1 will focus on rural development

SHAH ALAM, July 20 — State representatives are hoping the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) which will be tabled by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on Monday (July 25) will also focus on rural areas.

Sungai Panjang state assemblyman Dato’ Mohd Imran Tamrin said he hopes RS-1 will have more comprehensive focus to ensure no areas are left out from development.

“Selangor not only consists of Shah Alam or cities but also rural areas including my constituency in the Sabak Bernam district. Development of rural areas should also be looked at.

“We do not want Sabak Bernam to be left behind in the next five years of RS-1. There should be plans to bridge the gap between the districts in Selangor,” he told SelangorKini.

Mohd Imran said that based on the RS-1 Pre-Launch Symposium held earlier this month, the five-year plan presents a new hope for Selangor residents.

“We hope its implementation will cover all areas so nothing will be left behind or overlooked.

“It must involve all communities regardless of their political stance, race and religion. It must also involve cooperation between the state and Federal governments,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sijangkang state assemblyman Dato’ Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said that based on what was discussed during the symposium, RS-1 is a good plan for the state in the next five years.

“It is very good and at least we have plans for Selangor following the limitations caused by unexpected incidents including the floods and Covid-19.

“I hope it is not just a plan but that there will also be follow-ups. The economic opportunities that will emerge later will hopefully create more job opportunities for locals rather than relying on foreigners.

“From another angle I also hope there are plans to guarantee food security, as it is a necessity for Selangor,” he said.

Previously, Amirudin has said that RS-1 will focus on four main principles including the economy, society, sustainability and governance to achieve the Smart State Agenda by 2025.

A clear framework will be announced during its launch on July 25, in conjunction with the opening of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.
