Over 500 Sekinchan flood victims receive aid cash

By Mustakim Ramli

SABAK BERNAM, Sept 14 — Approximately 515 flood victims in Sekinchan who were affected by the floods in May have received RM300 in assistance cash.

Its state assemblyman Ng Suee Lim said the RM104,000 allocation was a contribution from the state government while Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI donated RM50,800.

“The assistance is for the victims of the flood that occurred on May 25, including 415 families and 100 traders.

“Per the flood disaster relief fund’s circular, only residential residents qualify for aid. However, I requested for help from the Menteri Besar and MBI in order to aid the traders and provide an additional RM50 for each victim,” he said.

Ng was speaking at the aid handover ceremony for the victims at Dewan Seri Sekinchan, yesterday.

He added the incident came about after heavy rain from 11am to 2pm on that day, in addition to the high-tide phenomenon which caused the victims’ homes to be flooded by nearly half a metre of water.
