State govt to explain Bukit Cherakah Forest Reserve issue this week

SHAH ALAM, Sept 12 — The controversy regarding the land ownership rights of Bukit Cherakah Permanent Forest Reserve raised by several parties will be clarified on Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the disclosure is to ensure the people get a clearer picture of the truth in the matter, in addition to clearing Selangor’s name, which is being attacked ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15).

“Suddenly there is a Bukit Cherakah issue. When checked, the picture released was not located in the area that was claimed to have been degazetted. It is an old (degazetted) area that was handed over by Umno and Barisan Nasional (led government) before.

“Thus on Tuesday or Wednesday, the state executive councillor in charge will explain to everyone, who was involved, to whom (the areas were) given and how it was given, so that the people know and to show our transparency (on this issue),” he said during his speech at the when speaking at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Ceramah Mega Rapat event at Taman Melawati, Gombak here, last night.

Amirudin, who is also PKR vice-president, reminded the state leadership to always give clarification on any issue to avoid confusion among the people.

“Pakatan Harapan (PH) is getting stronger in Selangor. Lately, the attacks on the state government have increased. For example, the Bukit Cerakah issue, from time to time we need to explain to the people,” he said.

Yesterday, Amirudin said they would investigate claims that companies with RM2 capital were among those granted land ownership rights in Bukit Cherakah Permanent Forest Reserve.

He also asserted that since the state was governed by Pakatan Rakyat or PH, they have never degazetted the Bukit Cherakah area.
