SHAH ALAM, Sept 19 — The Selangor contingent at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma 2022) is hoping to add to its gold medal haul this week after an outstanding performance in untargeted competitions last week.

State executive councillor for sports development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said swimming, shooting and football are among the potential medal winners for this week.

“Some of the sporting events that we have aimed for gold had started today. So, we expect to see more medals won on Wednesday and Thursday.

“We are proud that the first gold medal for Selangor was contributed by untargeted sports. This is a bonus to the state, especially to the Selangor National Sports Council (MSNS),” he said when contacted by SelangorKini today.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khairuddin said that the athletes are in good spirits and have shown great performance.

Leading the Selangor contingent, Mohd Khairuddin said he has been pleased with the athletes’ performance since the competition began.

“They are enthusiastic and other matters, such as logistics, had also run smoothly.

“Apart from winning gold, our athletes had also contributed to the silver and bronze medals.

“Their health is also in good condition even though a few athletes were injured. Overall, everything is under control and they have shown great performance,” he added.

Selangor is currently in the seventh spot with seven gold Sukma 2022 medals in hand.

The first gold for Selangor was achieved by wushu athlete Mandy Cebelle Chen.

Selangor has set a target to bring home 40 gold medals, 40 silver medals and 45 bronze medals in the Games this year with a total of 490 athletes and 75 coaches taking part in 30 sporting events.
