SUBANG JAYA, Oct 14 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) proposed an estimated expenditure of RM316 million to achieve its status as a smart and sustainable city next year.
Its mayor Dato’ Johary Anuar said the allocation would be split between development and running costs, with an emphasis on operating expenditure.
“The budget was drawn up as a result of the public hearing session with the community and stakeholders and will be presented to the State Executive Council for approval.
“The budget (next year) is a balanced budget given that we previously spent more than we brought in.
“Although the local councils would prepare its budget, this proposal would be submitted to the state authorities for approval,” he said after the launch of a micro-entrepreneur development training programme at the MBSJ headquarters, here yesterday.
Also present were MBSJ deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali, MBSJ Licensing director Nik Zalina Megat Muda and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Digitalisation Department manager Siti Nur Hazwani Md Sabudin.
Commenting further, Johary said that his party has for the first time allocated RM3 million to develop a community grant programme, for which applications can be made through the residents associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
“This is one of the budget’s key focuses for the following year, and to help entrepreneurs operate, we will also be constructing two new food courts in SS19 and Tasik Serdang.
“Funding for repairing infrastructure, maintaining roads, and managing solid waste is continued as usual as done each year,” he said.
