GE15: Syahredzan wants to voice the people’s rights, oppose laws oppressing the people

BANGI, Nov 3 — Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate for the Bangi parliamentary seat in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15) is determined to voice out people’s rights and fight to abolish oppressive laws.

Syahredzan Johan, 39, said his experience as a legal practitioner gave him the opportunities to defend individuals who were unjustly arrested and were not given access to legal representation.

“Why did I enter politics? It is due to my experience as a lawyer that made me realise, in Malaysia, the law that is supposed to protect the people is used to oppress the people instead.

“I also realised that to really change Malaysia, we have to change the people who have power to enact laws.

“Otherwise, we will end up in the same situation again. That is why I entered politics, because I want to fight to make Malaysia better,” he said during the launching of Bangi PH operations room, here today.

Syadredzan, who is also DAP’s Social Media Bureau chairman, hopes the public will take note of politics and the candidates being elected.

“I have met a variety of voters and now focus on voters aged 18 to 21, as well as those who have just only registered.

“I pledge to raise the issue of public transportation in Bangi which is an urban area, and voice out on the issue of personal data privacy,” he said.

Syadredzan added the number of voters in Bangi has increased to over 300,000, from around 179,000 in 2018.

He is confident in getting a good reception from Bangi voters, since he has been representing incumbent MP Ong Kian Ming since June this year.

Syahredzan was selected as PH’s candidate for Bangi to replace two-term incumbent Ong, who recently announced he will not run in GE15.

He is expected to face off against BN’s Hoh Hee Lee, PAS’ Muhammad Nazrul Hakim Md Nazir, GTA’s Annuar Salleh, and independent candidate Suthan M.

A native of Selangor, Syahredzan is the former chairman of the Constitutional Law Committee and the Young Lawyers Committee at the Bar Council, as well as a Bachelor of Law graduate from Cardiff University, United Kingdom.
