Rains, storms for all of Selangor until late tonight — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — The continuous squally weather throughout the state will last until later tonight, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

In a statement issued at 6.55pm, the agency said other states and territories which will be affected by heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms include Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka.

“Similarly, Kedah (Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu) and Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim) will also be affected.

“Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Bentong and Bera) and Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat and Pontian) will also experience strong weather,” it said.

In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s affected areas include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sarikei, Sibu (Sibu and Kanowit), Mukah (Tanjung Manis) dan Kapit (Song, Kapit and Bukit Mabong) while in Sabah it is Pedalaman (Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat, Tawau (Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Tongod and Kinabatangan).

The weather is expected to persist until 11pm.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
