Nearly 20,000 small traders join Plats, with chance to earn RM300 a day — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Dec 3 — Close to 20,000 small traders have joined Platform Selangor (Plats) in order to expand their respective businesses, as of November 6.

State executive councillor for entrepreneurial development Rodziah Ismail said the platform was created to guarantee hawkers’ sales could increase, via a free outlet.

“Through this initiative, we hope traders’ driven business performance will also lead to an increase in their income,” she said at the Plats Fiesta in Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, in conjunction with Karnival Usahawan Selangor (Kawan) 2022, earlier today.

“I also challenge these small traders to try and earn a net income of at least RM300 daily, as we wish to see the per capita income of Selangor’s residents increase year by year.

“If they trade for five days a week with a net income of RM300 daily, I am confident the B40 group can earn RM6,000 a month in income and would be able to live comfortably in the state,” Rodziah said.

The inaugural fiesta was officiated by Her Royal Highness the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

The Tengku Permaisuri spent nearly 30 minutes visiting stalls and interacting with the participating traders.

Also in attendance was the wife of the Menteri Besar, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, and Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.

With over 100 traders and small hawkers participating, a variety of food and drinks will be sold throughout the two-day carnival which ends tomorrow.

The programme brings together traders registered with Plats, and aims to help their businesses become more widely as part of the endeavour to create a digital community among business owners and consumers.

Plats Fiesta also features several activities including hot air balloons, toy stalls, and face painting, among others.

An open-air cinema provided by Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad and MBI will be open from 8am to 10pm.
