Anwar wishes Speedy Tigers all the best

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wished good luck to the national hockey squad ahead of their 2023 Hockey World Cup campaign in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, India.

He expressed confidence that the team coached by A. Arul Selvaraj, who will start their Group C action against the Netherlands this evening, will be able to show their best performance and pull off an upset against the higher-ranked opponents.

“I and all Malaysians wish the Speedy Tigers success. Hopefully, all will go well throughout the tournament. Let the name of the country shine on the world stage!,” Anwar said in a post on his Facebook today.

After the clash against the Oranje, the Speedy Tigers are scheduled to meet Chile on Monday and New Zealand on January 19.

This is Malaysia’s ninth appearance in the World Cup since its introduction in 1971 with the best achievement being fourth place in the 1975 edition when Malaysia was the host.
