MB hints state election to be held in July or August

KUALA LANGAT, March 5 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari hints at the possibility of a state election to be held in July or latest this August.

He said all the states involved, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, should be prepared to face the elections.

“Everyone knows that by the third or fourth week (of June, the State Legislative Assembly would be dissolved). So, people already understand that the state elections may be (held in) July, latest, August.

“We are giving a hint even though it is not clear, but it is almost certain,” he said when met after officiating the Kuala Langat Jelajah Kita Selangor Penyayang roadshow at Banting Waterfront, here today.

Amirudin, who is also the Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) Selangor chairman, also said that the consensus for the dissolution of the State Legislative Assemblies was reached in a meeting with the leaders of the five states recently.

“I thank my friends from the other states. We had a thorough discussion and each expressed their views and reached a consensus,” he said.

On February 22, Amirudin said the states had reached an agreement to consider the dissolution of their respective state assemblies in the last two weeks of June this year.

The consensus will be informed and discussed at the respective party level before being presented for the approval of the Sultan, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and Yang di-Pertua Negeri of the respective states.

Elections must be held within 60 days after the date of dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly.
