King, Queen attend Nuzul Al-Quran celebration at Penang State Mosque

GEORGE TOWN, April 7 — The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah today attended the Nuzul Al-Qu’ran celebration at the Penang State Mosque here.

Their Majesties were accompanied by their children Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Afzan Aminah Hafidzatullah, and Tengku Puteri Jihan Azizah ‘Athiyatullah.

The royal family were met on arrival at the mosque at 6.10pm by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his wife Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor, as well as Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman and his wife Datin Mohaini Mohd Safar.

The event commenced with the recital of a doa by the Penang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor, followed by a welcoming speech by Ahmad Zakiyuddin.

Their Majesties also met and presented contributions to 50 asnaf (eligible to receive zakat or tithe) recipients.

The event then continued with the Nuzul Al-Qu’ran tazkirah (religious talk) entitled Al-Qu’ran, Rahmat Untuk Umat, delivered by Datuk Rosli Othman, a member of the Penang Fatwa Committee.

Their Majesties then broke fast and performed Maghrib prayers with the congregation.
