SHAH ALAM, June 14 — Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) has been appointed the lead state agency overseeing the construction of a third port on Carey Island, Klang, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), meanwhile, has been tasked with implementing additional projects there, including the development of manufacturing, housing and industrial areas.

“It has been decided that PKNS will lead and represent the state government for the project to develop a third port on Carey Island,” he told reporters last night.

“Hopefully, this project will provide a consistent income for PKNS to continue serving the state.”

The menteri besar had previously said the development of the new port is meant to help ease congestion at the North and West ports, besides generating the state economy.

Amirudin was met by the media after attending the Excellent Service Awards 2022 (APC) and PKNS Appreciation Night 2023 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre last night.

A total of 146 PKNS staff were recognised during last night’s ceremony, 74 of whom were also recipients of the APC last year.

Meanwhile, 32 staff were accorded the Long Service Award for categories of 20, 25 and 30 years, while 40 others were recognised after reaching mandatory retirement.

The ceremony was officiated by Amirudin. Also present was State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim.

Each APC award recipient takes home a certificate of appreciation and RM1,000 check, while recipients of the Jasamu Dikenang Award received a gold medallion, Bank Simpanan Nasional premium saving certificate and certificate of appreciation.

As for those who are retiring, they each take home a gold medallion, premium saving certificate, a set of couple watches and a certificate of appreciation.

PKNS chief executive officer Dato’ Mahmud Abbas described all award winners as the primary movers behind PKNS’ excellence.

“Through this recognition, it is hoped to push them to continue giving their full commitment, subsequently ensuring PKNS remains trusted and fits the needs of the people of Selangor.

“To those who were not chosen, use this as a motivation to serve better.”

Meanwhile, Amirudin congratulated PKNS over its success in spearheading the state’s housing agenda.
