DAP to contest 15 seats in Selangor, Suee Lim, Sze Han to stand again

By Amar Shah Mohsen

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — State Speaker Ng Suee Lim and executive councillor Ng Sze Han are among several incumbent DAP assemblymen who will be defending their seats in the upcoming Selangor election, party secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced.

Loke said in total, the party would be vying for 15 of the 16 seats it won in the last state poll, the only exception being Dusun Tua, which had been given to Barisan Nasional.

He announced that of the 15 candidates, nine of them are incumbents.

Other than Suee Lim and Sze Han, Lee Kee Hiong (Kuala Kubu Baharu), Michelle Ng Mei Sze (Subang Jaya), Rajiv Rishyakaran (Bukit Gasing), Lim Yi Wei (Kampung Tunku), Jamaliah Jamaluddin (Bandar Utama) and Leong Tuck Chee (Pandamaran) will be defending their seats.

Balakong incumbent Wong Siew Ki, meanwhile, has been tasked to contest in Seri Kembangan, replacing Ean Yong Hian Wah.

In her place, 34-year-old Ong Chun Wei will make his debut in Balakong.

The other new faces announced were Yew Jia Haur (Teratai), Quah Perng Fei (Bandar Baru Klang), S. Preakas (Kota Kemuning), V. Papparaidu (Banting) and Lwi Kian Keong (Sungai Pelek).

Loke said the average age of the 15 candidates is 43.6, with only three of them over 50 years old, the oldest being Lee at 57.

He added that DAP will also feature five women candidates, making up one-third of the overall.

“We have a combination of men and women, experienced and new faces. All considerations were factored in. We want to name a lineup that can ensure victory in all seats contested,” he said during the candidates announcement at DAP’s headquarters, here, today.

“We know we will face tough competition this coming election, and we have made the necessary consideration and decision to pick candidates that can convince voters, unite the machineries and move as a cohesive unit.”
