SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Shah Alam Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) has lodged a police report against Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over his recent remarks deemed to be insulting the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
Its information chief Suryamuizzudin Kamarudin said the report was made in a bid to defend the sovereignty of the state royal institution from being used as political campaign fodder ahead of the state election.
He also urged for stern action to be taken by the authorities, arguing that political ceramah must not be used as a platform to insult the rulers.
“Sanusi’s speech was an open insult to the Selangor Sultan and cannot be accepted by the people of the state who love and respect the royal institution.
“He was also sowing discord among the rakyat through racial statements and by riding on the Islamic religion,” he told reporters after lodging a report at the Section 9 police station, here, today.
Suryamuizzudin said Keadilan also supports the federal government’s stance to act against those who play up the issue of race, religion and royalty (3R) for political gain.
“This country cannot be left to be destroyed merely because of the politics of division that is being promoted by Perikatan Nasional leaders.”
In a recent ceramah in Selayang, Sanusi appeared to take a dig at Sultan Sharafuddin for appointing Amirudin as Selangor menteri besar.
According to a viral video clip, Sanusi had said: “Such is the greatness of the Kedah Sultan, just look at its menteri besar. A Sultan as great as him would never appoint a lousy menteri besar like Amirudin,” he said.
