Seventh water surge victim in Terengganu identified

CHUKAI, July 4 — Police have identified a body found this morning; one of the 10 victims of the water surge tragedy at Jeram Air Putih here.

Kemaman police chief Hanyan Ramlan said the victim was identified as Putri Balqis Izzati Abdul Rahman, 18, by her next of kin.

“Putri Balqis Izzati’s body was found 24km from the location of the incident at sector B, behind Kampung Dadong mosque here, by villagers at 7.45am.

“…It is the seventh body found as of now, and the search and rescue operation will continue for the remaining three victims,” he told reporters.

He said her remains will be sent to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah in Kuala Terengganu for a post-mortem, whereas the six bodies found earlier would be handed over to their next of kin for burial this afternoon.

The search today involved 200 people from various agencies. They were assisted by residents and 13 water assets, Hanyan said.

Hanyan reminded the public not to spread fake news that could offend the victims’ families, adding that all official information will be released by police.
