KLANG, Aug 21 — Ten state assemblymen took their oath of office as members of the Selangor state executive council today, including seven new faces.

The appointment ceremony, which began around 2.30pm today, took place at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah, here, before the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

Also present were the Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

The three executive councillors who have been retained from the previous term are DAP’s Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, Amanah’s Izham Hashim (Pandan Indah) and Keadilan’s Borhan Aman Shah (Tanjong Sepat).

They respectively served as chairmen of the Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development Committee; Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee; and Rural Development and Traditional Village, Malay Customs, Culture and Heritage Committee.

Also included in the line-up is Sekinchan state representative Ng Suee Lim, who was the Selangor Speaker in the previous term.

However, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had said earlier that the portfolios for the current term would only be announced after he chairs the first executive council meeting on Wednesday.

The seven new faces to be appointed are:

– Najwan Halimi (Kota Anggerik, Keadilan);
– Fahmi Ngah (Seri Setia, Keadilan);
– Ng Suee Lim (Sekinchan, DAP);
– Jamaliah Jamaluddin (Bandar Utama, DAP);
– V. Papparaidu (Banting, DAP);
– Anfaal Saari (Taman Templer, Amanah); and
– Datuk Rizam Ismail (Sungai Air Tawar, Barisan Nasional)

During the swearing in ceremony, all executive councillors read the ‘Aku Janji 10’ (10-point pledge).

This includes upholding the sanctity of Islam (for Muslim councillors) and respecting the status of Islam (for non-Muslims councillors), while respecting other faiths; ensuring the sovereignty of the royal institution remains intact; guarding the institution against any denigration or external threats; preserving the unique status of the Malays while also acknowledging the rights of other ethnic groups as defined by the Federal and Selangor State Constitution of 1959; discharging duties with full integrity and responsibility; and preventing any acts that might tarnish the dignity of this position.

Earlier this morning, Amirudin had also took of his oath of office to be reappointed Selangor menteri besar for the second term.

The two swearing-in ceremonies today came following the conclusion of the August 12 state election, which saw the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional unity alliance securing 34 out of the 56 state seats on offer.

The remaining 22 were captured by their political rival Perikatan Nasional.
