BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 5 — Former TV3 cameraman Roslee Ramali, who is a stroke victim, is grateful for the assistance given to him today through the Tabung Kasih@Hawana initiative.
Roslee, 57, who has been unemployed since 2019, said he was moved and thankful when the Tabung Kasih@Hawana team visited him at his home in Jalan Kampung Tok Elong.
A tearful Roslee, who is paralysed on the right side of his body, said he did not expect to receive the donation through the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) initiative.
“The first time I suffered a stroke was in 2008, but after receiving treatment and going through physiotherapy and massage sessions, I recovered. I had another stroke in 2017, and I was well again after six months.
“However, I suffered a third stroke in 2019, which left me half-paralysed until today. It was really bad this time, but I am getting better though I have to cope with several other health problems including high blood pressure, heart and kidney problems,” he told Bernama earlier today.
The KKD donation and contributions from Mydin Hypermart and Aeon Big were presented to Roslee by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Economic News Service Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
Tabung Kasih@Hawana is being implemented through Bernama as part of a continuous effort to help the media community who are facing difficulties and challenges.
“I am thankful and surprised to receive the donation. I was not very well-known, but they still remember me and made the effort to come to visit me,” he said.
Roslee said his wife, Nurahamima Harun, 47, had to quit her job to care for him while their two children Mohammad Aiman Afiq, 26, and Nur Ardini Yasmin, 23, are working to support the family.
Meanwhile, Arul Rajoo said since the Tabung Kasih@Hawana was launched last May, a total of 15 former journalists and media practitioners have benefitted from the cash and in-kind contributions.
He said Tabung Kasih@Hawana has targeted 30 beneficiaries this year and hoped to reach out to more next year.
“We work in collaboration with media clubs and associations in the states to identify those who have retired, ailing and are in need of help so that aid can be channelled to them immediately,” he said.
