Nomination centres for Pulai, Simpang Jeram by-elections open at 9am today

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 26 — The nomination centres for the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections in Johor opened simultaneously at 9am today.

The nomination centre for the Pulai parliamentary by-election is at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim in Johor Bahru, while the centre for the Simpang Jeram state by-election is at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim, Muar.

The nomination process is for one hour until 10am.

The Election Commission (EC) has set September 9 as polling day for both by-elections with early voting on September 5.

The campaigning period is for 14 days starting after the declaration of the contesting candidates by the EC until 11.59p.m. on September 8.

According to the EC, there are 166,653 eligible electors for the Pulai parliamentary by-election and 40,379 eligible electors for the Simpang Jeram state seat.

Meanwhile, based on the weather forecast by the Meteorological Department, rain is expected in Johor Bahru and Muar districts this morning.

The by-elections were called after the P161 Pulai parliamentary seat and N13 Simpang Jeram state became vacant following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub who was the incumbent for both seats.

The Amanah deputy president and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister died on July 23 from a brain haemorrhage.
