Over five mln residents registered under state govt’s insurance scheme

HULU LANGAT, Aug 4 — More than 5.2 million Selangor residents have protection under the state government’s insurance scheme in the event anything untoward occurs.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said there are now less than one million vacancies for the Skim Insurans Am Selangor’s (Insan) quota and urged residents to immediately register themselves.

“Out of the total, 750,000 protection policies are allocated for Selangor’s children aged from 30 days to six years old.

“Our final phase is to register students and children. Success would mean almost 90 per cent of households with families will be covered under this scheme,” he said during the launch of Skim Insan Takaful, earlier today.

Amirudin encouraged parents to register their children via the Wavpay e-wallet app, by downloading it from the App Store or Google Play.

Meanwhile, Ana Maria Salihuddin, 36, whose parents passed away earlier this year in a road accident, said Insan has alleviated her burden in caring for her three siblings.

“My parents perished in an accident at Sungai Leman, Sungai Besar, in March. I was unaware they had registered for Insan, until a family member informed me.

“Today, we received RM11,000 in policy funds, including for the funeral expenses for both my parents,” she said.

First introduced last year, Insan aims to protect all Selangor residents from the ages of 30 days to 80 years, with the state government fully bearing the premium costs.

With RM60 billion in coverage value, it provides insurance protection of up to RM10,000 for permanent disability or death caused by accidents.
