We’ll be the people’s voice, regardless of party colour, vows Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, Aug 14 — The Selangor Unity Government will champion the voices of every single citizen in the state, regardless of their political affiliation.

This was the vow made by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari after the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (Harapan-BN) unity pact successfully defended state power in the August 12 election.

“We will be the voice (of the people) and will defend every Selangor citizen, irrespective of their political ideologies,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

“No one will be left behind. We will strengthen unity to ensure the prosperity of the state and its people.”

On a similar note, the Selangor Harapan chairman urged all quarters to respect the people’s mandate and not to pit the public against one another following the state election, which could threaten stability and cause disunity.

In the latest poll, the Harapan-BN unity pact secured 34 seats, out of the 52 on offer, to maintain its grip on the state administration.

However, it failed to retain its two-thirds majority after its opponent, Perikatan Nasional (PN), won the remaining 22 constituencies.

Amirudin, meanwhile, defended his Sungai Tua seat after garnering 19,678 votes. His closest opponent, PN’s Hanif Jamaluddin, secured 14,493 votes while independent candidate Suman Gopal had 430 votes.
