KUALA LANGAT, Sept 2 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has said he welcomes the formation of portfolio committees by Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Doing so aligns with the Opposition’s role of carrying out checks and balances on the state government.

“That is their function in performing checks and balances. I welcome the formation of portfolio committees, and we will try to address and clarify all matters.

“This is an opportunity for the state government to explain our policies in more detail, and respond to any criticisms and issues raised,” he said.

Speaking to the press after officiating the Fit Malaysia Selangor 2023 programme at Gamuda Cove Central Park, Amirudin said checks and balances are not limited to the Selangor State Legislative Assembly but can be applied more broadly.

“Today, we are faced with a continuous process of checks and balances which occur daily and at every moment, especially with the development of social media,” he said.

The Menteri Besar was remarking on the recent announcement of Portfolio Committees by Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, which involves key areas led by Opposition state assemblymen, based on their respective expertise.
