Prison Dept gets RM41 million to renovate staff quarters

SUNGAI BULOH, Sept 5 — Prison Department staff quarters will be renovated with a RM41 million allocation, said Deputy Commissioner-General of Prisons (Management) Abd Kadir Rais.

He said 2,940 units will be upgraded.

In thanking Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for providing the allocation in July, he said the renovation would boost morale of Prison Department staff.

This will have a positive impact on the quality of their work, he said after handing over keys of Phase 1 of the staff quarters at Sungai Buloh Prison today.

Kadir said the renovation involves 102 projects.

“Ten of the projects have been completed and they include two projects each at Taiping Prison and Labuan Correctional Centre.

“The others are at Kemunting Correctional Centre, Sungai Buloh Prison, Muar Rehabilitation Centre, Penor Prison in Kuantan, Henry Gurney School in Keningau and Henry Gurney School in Telok Mas,” he said.

Kadir said 45 other projects are over halfway done, while work on the remaining projects will start soon.
