Shadow exco line-up beneficial if excessive politicking avoided — MB

GOMBAK, Sept 22 — The Shadow State Executive Council line-up for the Selangor government unveiled by Perikatan Nasional (PN) on Tuesday (September 19) can be a constructive development, provided its elected representatives participate in meaningful debates which serve public interests.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Opposition’s role to check and balance the state government, combined with the Select Committee’s efforts within the State Legislative Assembly, could boost the efficiency of the state administration.

“It is their strategy for check and balance. It is commendable to have this oversight on the state government, and we also have mechanisms in place via the committees in the State Legislative Assembly.

“If their focus remains genuine, it will surely enhance our efficiency. I hope they address the real issues at hand, rather than twist and spin simply to politicise them,” he said during the handover ceremony for the completed upgrading project of the Jalan B23, Jalan Sungai Tua, and the Kampung Bendahara Sungai Tua junctions earlier today.

During the assembly sitting on Tuesday, Speaker Lau Weng San announced Hulu Kelang state assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohammed Azmin Ali as Selangor’s Opposition leader.

At a press conference after the sitting concluded, Azmin announced Selangor PN’s portfolio holders, who will serve as a shadow executive council to the state administration.
