SHAH ALAM, Nov 16 — A Selangor backbencher is confident the allocation of nearly RM100 million for education development and student aid initiatives under the 2024 Selangor Budget will be able to address arising issues related to the matter.

Seri Serdang assemblyman Abbas Salimi Azmi said the funding demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring all citizens have access to education.

The move will also prepare the younger generations for the future so they can contribute back to the state, he said when debating the budget in the State Legislative Assembly yesterday.

“Various initiatives related to the education sector were announced in the budget, including RM5 million for the Basic University Fee Assistance and RM3 million for the Higher Learning Institute Entry Reward, highest among all states.

“There was also the RM9 million allocation for the Selangor State Scholarship Fund. I have to commend the state government for giving more attention to education.”

Abbas added the RM359 million allocation for various social welfare schemes prove the administration’s readiness to draw up policies that are capable of assisting those in need face the multiple economic challenges of today.

“Take for example the policies on care economy, women and family development, and poverty eradication. All these relate to vulnerable groups like senior citizens, disabled persons and children.

“With such a significant allocation, I hope the state government will deliver on all planned initiatives so that the benefits can be truly enjoyed by the people,” he said.
