Learn from global activists, don’t spread lies, hate, MB tells politicians

SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 – Politicians should be more responsible and work together to ensure prosperity, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said today in condemning irresponsible parties that only appear interested in sowing discord.

He said these individuals should take inspiration from global activists of different backgrounds who have come together to strongly condemn the violence, oppression and cruelty of the Zionist regime against the Palestinians.

He noted how many prominent figures and youth activists from around the world, including Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, South America, London and Washington DC, have joined together to voice their opposition to the inhumane attacks committed by Israel.

“While we are diligently working on policies to address existing challenges and striving to implement policies that can truly benefit the people of Selangor, there are those who spread hatred and lies, especially via social media.

“Some of these irresponsible politicians should learn how activists around the world of various races and faiths have come together in condemning any forms of violence and cruelty committed by the Zionist,” he said when tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget today.

Amirudin pointed out that more people today are relying on unverified short clips uploaded on social media than obtaining information through traditional methods, such as lectures and conventional reading materials.

“Social media has inundated our minds with thousands of images and information that often lacked validity and accuracy.

“Furthermore, some intentionally mislead people, aiming to sow discord and confusion. Therefore, we need to be extra cautious when processing all the information disseminated via social media platforms,” he said.

He also acknowledged that social media platforms like X, Tiktok, Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and Telegram can serve as powerful tools, which can also be dangerous if misused.

“It is crucial to acknowledge their potential for manipulation as weapons to disseminate hatred, false and baseless accusations,” he said.
