Miscellaneous expenditure for emergency needs, explains MB

By Yasmin Ramlan

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has clarified that the main purposes of miscellaneous expenditure under the state’s annual budget are for emergency uses and additional needs.

This includes the conducting of a comprehensive study on high-risk slopes across Selangor.

“Every year, landslide incidents occur. This year, I have asked the state executive councillor for infrastructure (Izham Hashim) to conduct a comprehensive study on slopes across Selangor.

“Previously, we identified hotspots for floods and congested areas. Now, we need to identify landslide hotspots too, especially in Hulu Langat, Ampang, Selayang, and several other localities,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today.

Amirudin added the high-risk slopes study is a proactive measure conducted by gathering critical and comprehensive data.

He was responding to queries by the Opposition related to miscellaneous expenditure in the 2024 Selangor Budget, which was included as part of the operating expenses.

Of the total sum allocated for operational expenditure, RM14.71 million has been earmarked for miscellaneous expenses. The remaining are for emoluments (RM480.24 million ), services and supplies (RM601.57 million), asset purchases (RM22.9 million), and grants and fixed payments (RM210.56 million).

As the expenditure will be used for emergency and additional needs, the state government does not have a fixed description specifying the allocation’s utilisation.

However, Amirudin cited several examples where the funds were used in response to natural disasters like floods and landslides.
