Selangor Raja Muda’s presence a morale booster for national sailing team

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 — The national sailing team competing in the ongoing Star Sailors League (SSL) Gold Cup Final Series in Gran Canaria, Spain, received a morale booster with the presence of the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

According to the team’s statement, Tengku Amir Shah arrived in Spain on November 9 and was welcomed by team captain Megat Danial Megat Najmuddin, and team members Khairulnizam Mohd Affendy and Nur Shazrin Mohamad Latif.

“We are grateful for His Highness’ presence and time spent to give us a morale booster in facing the competition.

“We are confident to clinch a spot in the Top 20 in this finals,” Megat Danial said.

The national squad, known as The Monsoon, has been drawn in Fleet 3 together with Antigua and Barbuda, Ukraine, and Bermuda for the 1/32 finals.

Fleet One comprises Peru, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Tahiti; Fleet Two features Portugal, Chile, Cuba and Estonia; while Fleet 4 comprises the Czech Republic, Lithuania, South Africa, and Oman.

The two best teams from each fleet will advance to the 1/16 finals.

For the record, Malaysia clinched the second spot behind Antigua and Barbuda in the first round on November 10 and the third spot behind Antigua and Barbuda and Ukraine in the second race on November 11.
