Afdlin Shauki elected FDAM chairman

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — Film director Datuk Afdlin Shauki has been elected as the chairman of the Film Directors Association of Malaysia (FDAM) today for the 2024-2025 term.

In a statement, FDAM said Afdlin secured the majority support from its members in the elections held at the 25th biennial general meeting of the FDAM at Pawagam Mini P. Ramlee, National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) in Hulu Kelang, Selangor yesterday.

Meanwhile, Afdlin expressed his commitment to helping association members achieve a higher level of professionalism and raising its image.

“This is a big responsibility, but I am excited to be with my friends to bring reforms so we can all be proud to hold FDAM membership cards again.

“…we are rebranding FDAM so that it becomes the main pillar for directors in Malaysia. If you want to be a director you must be recognised as a member of FDAM,” he said.

In addition, Afdlin said FDAM membership is also open to digital influencers so they could take the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience from senior members who have a lot of experience in directing films.

Loganathan Kanabathy was elected treasurer, Terry Chan was elected deputy treasurer, while four others were elected committee members, namely Mohamed Faizal Syed Ariff, Elrafaei Sapi, Faisal Chal Ahmad, and Muhammad Aiman Mohammad Zaki.
