Kumpulan Semesta recognised as among top Asean firms for mineral mining

SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd has been recognised as one of the top three companies in the region for ‘Best Practices in Non-Metallic Mineral Mining at the 3rd Asean Mineral Awards 2023, held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, recently.

The state subsidiary, which is a key player in the mining sector, was nominated to represent Malaysia to compete with 16 mining companies from the Southeast Asian region.

Its achievement proves the firm’s ability to comprehensively manage on-site rock and mineral mining operations, demonstrating adherence to standards and procedures established by state authorities, Federal administration, as well as with international standards. 

The recognition is also the result of the collaborative efforts of various entities, including the Selangor Land and Mines Office, District and Land Office, Mineral and Geoscience Department, Environment Department, Selangor Water Management Authority, Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department, and various other state government agencies. 

The Asean Mineral Awards is a recognition bestowed upon practitioners in the mining and quarrying industry within the Asean region. 

It is an initiative under the Asean Minerals Cooperation Action Plan, which was agreed upon within the framework of the Asean Senior Officials Meeting in Minerals and Asean Ministerial Meeting on Minerals (AMMin). 

Kumpulan Semesta managing director and chief executive officer Abdul Rahman Ishak was present to receive the prestigious award during an AMMin gala dinner at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel on November 23. 

Rahman expressed his gratitude to Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari for his consistent support and trust in Kumpulan Semesta.

“This success is achievable thanks to the collective support from various government agencies and departments, as well as the dedicated staff who consistently serve as the backbone of the company,” he said.

Previously, at the 2nd Asean Mineral Awards in 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand, Kumpulan Semesta won the ‘Best Practices in Sustainable Mineral Development (Non-Metallic Minerals Distribution)’ category. 

Established in 2008, Kumpulan Semesta is a company owned by the Selangor government that is responsible for managing the extraction, production, distribution and sale of sand, rock materials and mineral resources, while promoting sustainable mineral mining operations in the state.
