SHAH ALAM, Dec 18 — The Higher Education Ministry is committed to upholding the tradition of the Royal Debate Competition, aiming to showcase the best youth talents nationwide.
Its minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir said the competition supports the Malaysia Madani vision, to foster a culture of knowledge and promote diversity of discourse.
“This competition serves as a platform to nurture students’ thinking and eloquence, as well as playing a vital role in nurturing outstanding students with excellence in academics, personality, and skills.
“With a programme like this, it can revitalise the intellectual tradition on campus, providing a much-needed space for students to refresh their ideas,” he said during the 2023 Royal Debate Competition between higher-learning institutions (IPT) today.
The ceremony at Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor in Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) was officiated by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
Her Royal Highness, who is also UiTM’s chancellor, presented the winning prize, accompanied by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and UiTM Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibudin.
A total of 85 groups participated across three categories, namely Malay, English, and Arabic.
The competition sees the participation of 19 public universities and four private higher education centres.
