SELAYANG, Jan 25 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the secure and harmonious celebration of religious occasions in Selangor, particularly highlighting the grand festivities of Thaipusam at Batu Caves.

Addressing the audience at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple during the state-level Thaipusam celebration yesterday night, he emphasised the importance of respect and understanding in strengthening communal ties within the state’s diverse communities.

“This temple is among the most visited sites, attracting devotees and tourists worldwide. Our commitment, as the state government, is to ensure Selangor’s people have the freedom to participate in the economy and practice their faith with mutual respect and understanding without any disturbances.

“Since I became an elected representative in 2008, and now with Batu Caves located in my constituency, we have ensured that millions of Hindu devotees can visit the temple with ease.

“I consistently urge all local authorities, enforcement agencies, and state officials to work closely to ensure the celebrations here are a success and can proceed without any complications,’’ he said.

Amirudin also criticised extreme identity politics, stating that each community’s uniqueness contributes to the strength of Selangor, fostering unity and coexistence.

He highlighted the significance of self-sacrifice for the greater good, adding the state government’s success is a result of collective efforts, emphasising initiatives to assist the needy, and to improve their quality of life since 2008.

During the event, state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V. Papparaidu also announced a RM537,000 grant would be distributed to 47 temples in Selangor to help with much needed upgrades and renovation.
