SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — The state government is looking to ensure 130,000 Form Four and Form Five students will benefit from the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS), starting this April.
Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI’s corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the free initiative involves a RM10 million allocation.
“This year’s allocation has been increased to RM10 million and is also extended to Form Four students, as opposed to only being limited to Form Five students before.
“The total number of educators and schools involved will be known after the PTRS 2024 Workshop is held later,” he said to SelangorKini.
During the tabling of the 2024 Selangor Budget on November 10 last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said an additional RM3 million will be allocated to MBI for PTRS, bringing the total to RM10 million compared to RM7 million last year.
PTRS provides additional classes in Malay, English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Add Maths for students from low-income families with average or weak academic performance.
In addition to providing modules, the allocation includes allowances for teachers and lunch for students attending tuition, involving 277 schools and 1,956 teachers and coordinators for 2023.
