SHAH ALAM, Feb 12 — The Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) 2024, which is set to see 26 teams competing in the games that include world-class players, will kick off tomorrow until February 18.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship said the event, held at the Setia City Convention Centre in Setia Alam, here, will be launched by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
“As the host, we have ensured that all facilities and preparations are complete, especially the requirements involving the games and players. We are confident that the championship will proceed smoothly.
“The online ticket sales have been open since last month and have received encouraging demand. For direct sales, it will open tomorrow, but we encourage the spectators to buy the tickets online,” he told SelangorKini.
Najwan said aside from the championship, a food festival involving 150 stalls is also taking place near the venue from 11am to 11pm.
“Since the event is held during the school holidays, perhaps some of the spectators will be bringing their children along. Therefore, there will be booths opened nearby with other activities going on, such as hot air balloons,” he said.
BATC 2024, organised for the second time in Selangor, will showcase Asia’s best players from 26 countries, including China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates.
Malaysia’s challenge, which comes down to being the defending champions, is supported by the four singles players Lee Zii Jia, Ng Tze Yong, Leong Jun Hao and Eogene Ewe, while Aaron-Wooi Yik, Nur Izzuddin Rumsani-Goh Sze Fei and Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri are slated for the doubles competition.
Malaysia would first meet Brunei (tomorrow) and Kazakhstan (February 14), before meeting Taiwan (February 15).
