Former rep prioritised Kuala Kubu Baharu’s welfare, infrastructure

SHAH ALAM, April 22 — During the three terms of the late Lee Kee Hiong as its state assemblyman, various infrastructure projects were carried out in the Kuala Kubu Baharu state constituency.

The friendly attitude of the 58-year-old, who passed away of cancer on March 21 after battling cancer for several years, often prioritised residents’ convenience, which endeared her to everyone regardless of background.

Several of the major infrastructure projects and public amenities she undertook during her tenure include:

  1. Expansion of the Sungai Batang Kali Bridge (for RM24 million, completed in September 2023)
  2. Replacing the Sungai Kerling Bridge (for RM6.4 million, completed in 2019)
  3. Construction of the Sungai Kumbang Bridge (for RM5 million, completed in November 2018)
  4. The Sungai Chiling Bridge project (for RM4.7 million, completed in August 2018)
  5. Replacing bridges on Sungai Selangor (for RM10.5 million, completed in January 2018)
  6. Construction of Masjid Kampung Melayu in Rasa (for RM13 million, completed in March 2023)
  7. Construction of a new waqf in the Kerling Indian cemetery (under Projek Selangor Penyayang, completed in June 2023)
  8. Roof replacements and road resurfacing works at Balairaya Kuarters Kakitangan, Jalan Hospital (under Projek Selangor Penyayang, completed in June 2023)
  9. Expansion of the iron bridge at Kampung Paya Dalam (under Projek Selangor Penyayang, completed in June 2023)
  10. Upgrading the hall and changing rooms of the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hot Spring (under Projek Selangor Penyayang, completed in June 2023)
  11. Roof replacement for Balairaya Kampung Asam Kumbang and the Kwang Yung Kwang Sai Association Hall (under Projek Selangor Penyayang, completed in June 2023)
  12. Upgrading the Kuala Kubu Baharu public market (for RM1.5 million, completed in 2023)
  13. Construction of the Felda Soeharto Health Clinic Integration Quarters in Hulu Bernam (for RM7 million, completed in 2023)
  14. Construction of the Agricultural Complex in Kalumpang (for RM2 million, completed in 2022)
  15. Upgrading the Kuala Kubu Baharu Public Library (for RM3.2 million, completed in 2022)
  16. Construction of the Kuala Kubu Baharu Veterinary Office (for RM1.5 million, completed in 2021)

The Election Commission (EC) has set the polling for the Kuala Kubu Baru state by-election on May 11, with April 27 as the candidate nomination day.

It is the seventh by-election held after the 15th general election in November 2022. The state constituency has approximately 40,226 registered voters, including police, military personnel, and their spouses.
