Zafrul outlines five key strategies to regain Umno’s glory in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, April 6 — Umno Supreme Council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has shared five approaches to regain the party’s glory in Selangor.

Zafrul, who also serves as the investment, trade, and industry minister, said Umno’s failures in the last general and state elections necessitated a sincere study to gauge the overall sentiment of the Selangor people towards the party.

The Kota Raja Umno Division chief said the second thing was to modernise organisational operations to make the party more effective, communicate faster, be open to grassroots ideas, prioritise policy proposals, and utilise data and analysis accurately.

“Thirdly, we must seek successors with an open heart. This is crucial because ultimately, Selangor Umno will be judged by the people based on the leaders it puts forward.

“The fourth suggestion is to devise win-win collaborations with our partners in Selangor,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Zafrul said the fifth and most crucial action is for Umno to embrace a new political culture, focusing on intellectualism, solutions-oriented approaches, and eliminating cash-centric practices.

He said if the existing culture is not changed, Umno would remain powerless in Selangor, regardless of how comprehensive its plans and visions are.

Zafrul, who resigned as Umno Treasurer last week, expressed his commitment to the party’s Kota Raja Division and Selangor chapter, as he aspires to see the party regain relevance and respect in the state.

“So, if my views on the urgent need to restore Umno’s glory in Selangor are not accepted, I think it’s better for me to focus on helping Umno at the central and divisional levels only,” he said.
