How long do we need to endure slow yet expensive internet?

I noted the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s announcement on the free WiFi incentive until end of this year, offered in over 5800 hotspot locations throughout the country.
The WiFi service will be charged again next year (2018) at a lower rate.

  1. All Malaysians and I are so excited about this news and we would like to know the names of the 5800 hotspots.

For such a long time, citizens in this country are using their personal mobile data to browse the internet, paying among the most expensive rates in Southeast Asia with slow speed and unstable connection.

  1. Even with this free WiFi concept, it still does not solve the main issues with the national internet, where this service has been monopolised for so long causing it to be uncompetitive.

Due to that, cost to consumers and speed are still the main problems. If this persist, new technological advancement such as online examination system and financial transaction cannot be expanded throughout Malaysia.

  1. The rapid technological advancement in Malaysia shows that the community is moving towards a digital lifestyle.

Citizens are using the internet to surf the social media, watch videos, play online games, location-based applications, search engines and internet banking.
This healthy development can be applied by equipping public schools with faster internet access and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) as in other developed countries.
I hope that Najib Razak can understand the citizens in this country who want a long-term solution to this issue.
