Jais: ‘Akad nikah’ still conducted via video conferencing

SHAH ALAM, June 1 — Solemnisation for Muslim couples in Selangor during the ongoing conditional movement control order (MCMO) is still carried out via video conferencing, says the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais).

Its director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said this is in line with the efforts announced by the Federal government on the CMCO to contain the Covdi-19 infection.

“’Akad nikah’ (solemnisation ceremony) through video conferencing would only involve the bride and groom and the wali (custodian) and two witnesses will be present at the bride’s home.

“The marriage registrar will be witnessing the ceremony through the same conference from respective Islamic Religious District Offices,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Shahzihan added that the conditions are applicable for couples who were approved to tie the knot during the CMCO period.
