MB: Beware of high tide phenomenon on Nov 4-9

SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 — People living near the coastal areas of Selangor, as well as visitors to these areas, are advised to be vigilant following warnings of a high tide phenomenon expected to occur between November 4 and 9.

The public is also reminded to be careful when near large bodies of water and to monitor the weather conditions, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“The Meteorological Department predicted that the high tide phenomenon will hit Selangor for four days starting this November 4 in Klang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor.

“Residents and visitors near the coastal areas and large bodies of water are advised to be on the alert and monitor the weather conditions,” he posted on Facebook today.

Apart from Selangor, the high tide phenomenon is also expected to hit Kedah, Perak and Johor during the same period and would be made worse if strong winds, huge waves and heavy rain were to occur simultaneously.

Department of Irrigation and Drainage director-general, Datuk Ir Nor Hisham Mohd Ghazali said the phenomenon may cause flash floods, seawater overflow and coastal flooding.
