SHAH ALAM, June 30 — Some 63 students of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have managed to create eight food products in conjunction with the New Product Introduction Day 2022 yesterday.

They include white chilli margarine Lado La Tien, corn fries, corn fillings MaizeMerize, rock melon cubes, rock melon chutney powder, watermelon sauce tea, and watermelon juice with soy milk.

The deacon of UPM’s Science and Food Technology (FSTM) Prof Madya Anis Shobirin Meor Hussin said the new foods were produced by third-year Science and Technology undergraduates, in line with the theme of innovative solutions to reduce food loss.

“The development of new products is the process of changing new ideas to interesting products and satisfying consumers on the market.

“The food prototype presented is based on watermelon, honeydew, chillis and corn, which were presented to the jury of experts from the government and private sectors, and special representatives from FSTM,” she said.

Anis Shobirin added the chosen theme plays an important role in achieving sustainable development.
