King congratulates Hamidin on being elected as Fifa council member

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2 — The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has congratulated Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin on being elected one of the five Asian Football Confederation (AFC) representatives to the Fifa Council for the 2023 – 2027 term.

His Majesty expressed joy and pride at Hamidin’s success and described it as a recognition not only for him but also for FAM and the country.

“It also proves once again that Malaysia is capable of producing world-standard and quality individuals of calibre,” His Majesty said in a statement uploaded on Istana Negara’s Facebook account today.

Hamidin, who before this was an AFC executive council member, was elected to the Fifa council at the AFC Congress in Manama, Bahrain, on Wednesday, after receiving 30 votes.

He was among seven candidates vying for the five Asian male representative seats.

Al-Sultan Abdullah also expressed confidence that Hamidin, with his vast experience and capabilities, is able to successfully carry out his responsibilities as a Fifa council member.

His Majesty was also confident that Hamidin would inject fresh impetus into the world and Malaysian football, wishing him well as well as praying for his continued success.
