KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 — Political parties and its leaders were called to understand the dynamics of the country and refrain from playing up racial and religious issues.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said based on his findings last year, the police often found themselves “wasting time” investigating cases related to political parties instead of focusing on catching the criminals.

“If the political leaders use their rationale, there is nothing that they can’t solve (themselves). Some things that were said by them had hurt the sentiments of the people. It’s wasting my time and my officers.

“I appeal to all members of political parties to understand the dynamics of the country as well as its various races and religions and use this as a strength to build the nation,” he told a media conference at the Federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman today.

Known as a country that has a multicultural demographic, Abdul Hamid cited the United States as an example for Malaysia.

“Setting aside their (the US) foreign policies, somehow with their multi-ethnic dimension, they managed to keep their citizens together and build their nation,” he said.

Abdul Hamid added that improving the police force’s integrity would be the main agenda for the year 2020.
