MSN Selangor receive RM7 mln for sports development

By Khairul Azran Hussin

SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) has received an annual allocation of RM7 million from the state government for sports development programmes.

Its executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said the funds will be used to upgrade facilities, grassroots programmes, purchase of sports equipment as well as allowances for athletes and coaches.

“The allocation is also used for the development of reserve squad as well as finding new talent at the grassroots level, as well as for the sports support system which includes equipment, supplements, performance analysis and motivational camps.

“However, following the spread of Covid-19, we need to review the allocation distribution to prepare for contingencies such as swab tests for athletes participating in tournaments,” he told SelangorKini yesterday.

In March last year, state executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman had announced the RM7 million annual allocation to execute various sports programmes in the state.

Mohd Khairuddin said the funds would be channelled to MSN Selangor with almost half to be used for the preparation of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) athletes.
