SHAH ALAM, July 8 — The Selangor government’s e-commerce initiatives is the right move for the state’s economic recovery, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Menteri Besar said the impact of the enforced movement control order (MCO) to contain the Covid-19 outbreak since March last year had affected almost 90 per cent of the country’s economic activities from operating as usual.
“This had disrupted the economic growth of the country but we still have a chance through the e-commerce sector, which is under the state’s investment portfolio, such as the Ramadan e-bazaar that had received an overwhelming response.
“The impact from such initiative was not only seen among the entrepreneurs but also farmers who provide fresh produce,” said Amirudin on a live talk show on Bernama TV, last night.
He said the public should take up the offers provided by the state government even though the ecosystem structure has yet to fully recover.
“This is part of the state administration’s initiative in line with Selangor’s vision of becoming a smart state. The future is now due to Covid-19,” he said.
Since last year, Selangor in collaboration with e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada had held four e-commerce campaigns which created ripple effects amounting to RM2.95 billion to the state economy and recorded a total of RM144.7 million direct sales.
The Selangor Raya e-Bazarr and 11.11 e-Bazaar were held in 2020 and the Chinese New Year e-Bazaar, as well as another Raya e-Bazaar, was conducted this year.
