MB: Pandemic silver lining for Smart Selangor digitalisation boost

By Ida Nadirah Ibrahim

SHAH ALAM, Aug 30 — The Covid-19 pandemic has brought the glimmer of a silver lining for the digitalisation push in both Selangor and the country.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state’s digitalisation blueprint introduced in 2016 sped up the implementation of the initiatives and public acceptance towards it.

“For example, when we started Sitec (Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council), we were able to train about 100 individuals per year on the Selangor application programmes and those who want to digitalise their businesses.

“But with the e-bazaar initiative, for example, we were able to invite more than 20,000 participants to join, and the people are also adapting faster to the programmes that we have introduced during the pandemic,” Amirudin told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today, which was broadcast live on Media Selangor’s Facebook and SelangorTV Youtube channel.

“What we can see from the pandemic, the positive outcome is the boost in digitalisation, which is in line with the state government’s goal to become a smart state by 2025.”

Amirudin said the state administration does not plan to make any amendments to the Smart Selangor programmes and it would depend on the projections made based on the current Covid-19 situation and the state government’s financial capability.

“The state government had allocated huge funds since 2020 and this year to ensure that the Smart Selangor initiatives run smoothly,” he said.

Amirudin said the previous 12 domains included under the Smart Selangor programme are now simplified under four domains: the smart government, smart economy, smart community, and smart digital infrastructure.

He said some of the initiatives included under the four pillars are the CCTV (closed-circuit television) Analytics, Smart Selangor Platform and Smart Selangor C5i Operation Centre, which operates at the Selangor State Secretariat building.

The Sungai Tua state assemblyman cited either programmes such as the Smart Selangor Parking, Selangor Intelligence Transport System and the GigaByte Network.
