Works to strengthen Sungai Klang river bund to be done soon — MB

PUCHONG, Dec 25 — Works to improve the river bund at Sungai Klang will be conducted as soon as possible to avoid the recurrent water overflow in the future, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the water pump power resources will also be diverted to avoid flooding at a cost of between RM20 million to RM30 million.

“The base has been completed, we just need to toughen it because we do not want the water overflow incident, which occured on December 18, to happen again. We will try to complete it within a month.

“What we have to do is to install the pilings and the bund’s support since it acts as the main buffer for river water to flow into the village area,” he said when met after visiting the post-flood cleanup process in Kampung Bukit Lanchong here, yesterday.

He added the work to strengthen river bund would be completed within five to six months.

Earlier, Aminudin had visited the Sungai Klang river bund and the Drainage and Irrigation Department water lock before joining volunteers for a hi-tea session at Balai Majlis Perwakilan Penduduk Bukit Lanchong.

A torrential rain from December 17 until 19 had recorded two-folds of rainfall in Selangor of about 180 millimeters, resulting in many locations in the state being flooded.
