SHAH ALAM, Jan 27 — Approximately 49,932 families who were affected by the floods last month have received the state government aid of RM1,000 per family, as of yesterday.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the contributions via Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) involved RM49.932 million, along with the RM120,000 given to the families of 12 victims who perished in the floods.

Based on the information provided, Klang remains the district with the most recipients at 12,728 households, followed by Petaling with 12,734, and Hulu Langat with 7,703.

Other districts in Selangor include Sepang (6,232), Kuala Langat (6,778), Kuala Selangor (2,730), Gombak (893), Hulu Selangor (94) and Sabak Bernam (40).

Similarly, the aid distribution process includes flood-affected families who chose not to be evacuated to temporary relief centres, which is currently being done in stages.

On December 21 last year, the state government announced a RM100 million fund to kickstart the Selangor Bangkit programme, to address the flooding and its aftermath.

In addition to infrastructural repairs, the allocation also covers RM10,000 in aid to the families of victims who perished in the floods, and RM1,000 in aid to the heads of affected households, for the restoration of their homes.

Those who qualify for assistance include three categories, which are victims who were evacuated to temporary relief centres, those who were evacuated to private centres, and those who chose to remain with their homes.
