MetMalaysia: Most of Selangor to experience strong winds, heavy rains, thunderstorms until evening

SHAH ALAM, March 4 — Seven out of nine districts in Selangor are expected to undergo strong weather for the better part of today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)

These districts include Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, and Hulu Langat.

“Other states and territories which will experience strong winds, heavy rains and thunderstorms include the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory and Jelebu in Negeri Sembilan,” it said in a statement published at 2.55pm.

Perak (Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim) will also experience strong weather, as will Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Bentong and Temerloh)

“In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s affected areas include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Miri and Marudi) as well as Limbang.

“In Sabah, its areas include Pedalaman (Beaufort), Pantai Barat, Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat (Kota Marudu) All the aforemention locations will experience strong weather until 6pm today,” said MetMalaysia.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur in excess of an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
